Here is a summary of our 2017 netball season. This year we had 12 teams who practised and played matches regularly.

The First Netball Team:
• We experienced a reasonably good season this year and are very proud of some excellent wins.
Luckily, the team suff ered only one serious injury. We are holding thumbs that Laureka Wallace will be
fully recovered to play netball next year!

• Our team participated in three tournaments: the Porterville tournament (won two of three matches); the
George Netball Top Tournament (won fi ve of ten matches) and our own Karoo Tournament (tournament

Provincial Players:
• 6 Struisies participated in the Eden netball trials held in Riversdale.
• 2 players were selected for the u/18 Western Cape team which participated in the National Tournament in Boksburg during the June vacation: Anique Wolmarans and Carla van Zyl. We are very proud of
these two girls who were again selected for this honour for the seventh year in a row.
• Anique was also selected for the SA Schools team which participated in a tournament in Fiji in May.
During the national tournament, she was also placed in the top 35 group u/18 players.
• Carla van Zyl will be touring Scotland during the October vacation with a South African Invitational
• 2 Struisies represented Eden District at the Interdistrict Tournament held at Hoërskool Hugenote:
Mangi Maphidzhe (u/17) and Anlizé Vermeulen (u/16). Both their teams won bronze medals at the

Other Netball Achievements:
• We had three very good sport days. We won 6 of our 9 matches against Langenhoven Riversdale,
7 of the 9 against York High and all our matches against George High.
• The u/18C netball team played good netball this year. We beat the following teams: Kwaggas (23-19),
Langenhoven Riversdale (16-13), York High (28-8), Point High (30-3) and Hoërskool Hugenote (17-12).
• Our u/15A team played a brilliant match against DF Malan, winning the match in honour of their team
mate, Michealé Abrahams, who had passed away in an accident during the vacation. Michealé was a
lovely young lady on whom we relied a lot on the netball court. She will certainly be missed!

Thank you to each coach and player who contributed to the success of this year’s netball season.
We appreciate each one’s contribution on and off the court.
